How to fit a Louis Garneau visor to a Time trial cycling helmet

This is my first blog post in English, usually i write in Norwegian. I know there are allot of people wondering about how you fit a visor to your time trial helmet so here is a guide.

Louis Garneau TT Visor from Amazon.com
This is the stock Louis Garneau visor, i think it is a pre 2009 model. The 2009 model looks a bit different but the procedure is the same. Obviously it does not fit the Giro helmet because it’s made for LG(Louis Garneau) model. It’s suppose to be screwed onto the LG helmet but to fit it to the Giro helmet you will need to do some cutting.
I test fitted the LG visor onto the helmet to check how much I should cut of. I used a bit of electrical tape to secure it to the helmet while putting some cutting marks on the visor with a DVD type pen. Actually the visor is made by the same stuff that DVDs are made of, polycarbonate.

To make it fit under the plastic of the Giro helmet you need to cut about 0,5cm between the foam and the outer plastic. Please cut in you helmet at your own risk. I can not guarantee that the helmet does not take any damage by doing this. A lot of pro riders has done it this way so I’m comfortable doing it when they use it in UCI Pro Tour race.

I used a carpenters knife to cut the space between the foam and the plastic covering the helmet.

I used a normal scissor to cut the visor. Worked great.

After i cut the space needed for the visor i pressed the visor between the foam and the plastic to make more room for the visor. Obviously the visor is thicker than the knife blade.

The visor needed some more cutting after test fitting it the second time

Finished! Now you can look like a Pro! I garantuee you this will shave 2 hours of a 5000 hour timetrial.
